The world of craft beer has changed a lot in five years. In February 2012, there weren’t many places to find a good selection of craft beer in Houston. Flying Saucer, Petrol Station and Ginger Man, thanks for paving the way. Today, you’re hard pressed to find any bar without a selection of craft beers, which is definitely a trend we like to see.
In true Hay Merchant fashion, we’re throwing an anniversary celebration. And since we consider five years to be a significant milestone, we’re throwing out all the stops to thank you, our customers, for supporting us for the past 1,825 days.
Inspired by one of our favorite beers at one of our favorite breweries, we’re celebrating by the Square Root. All beers on the wall will either be $5 or $2.23 (the square root of 5). And, naturally, the party is taking place on 2.23.17 (see what we did there?). Also, 2+2+3+1+7 is15. Divide that by 3, and you get 5 (if you ask where the 3 came from, you were one of those kids that didn’t believe in Santa).
While all of this math may be overdoing it (and making our heads hurt), we still take it as a sign that the universe is blessing our anniversary. We will be pulling some fun stuff out of the cellar, including 2012 Oskar Blues Ten Fidy, 2012 Real Ale Scots Gone Wild, 2012 Brooklyn Monster, 2012 North Coast Old Rasputin XV, and, of course, BFM’s Square Root 225. Cheers to you, Houston and craft beer. We look forward to celebrating our birthday with you.
